Rupert has a great ear for the required emotion of a piece and is wonderfully collaborative, making the whole process extremely enjoyable.
Rupert composed a beautiful and atmospheric piece which was perfect for the short film I produced about an old abandoned mansion in Beirut. He composed a number of tracks using various instruments inspired by the local context and also incorporated field sound recordings of the actual house into the score giving the soundtrack a site specific and haunting quality. He worked to a very tight deadline and collaborated efficiently with the producer, director and sound recordist. His background as a classically trained concert pianist gives his music quality and depth. He is a pleasure to work with.
I am privileged to have worked with Rupert on several film productions including the BBC documentary - ‘Lenin’s Secret Files’. Rupert is quick to understand the style and mood of the cues required. The resulting compositions arrive exactly to length, and weave seamlessly into the sound track. He instinctively captures and enhances the emotional thrust of the narrative and his themes are brilliant at bringing cohesion to a wide range of juxtaposed images. I would thoroughly recommend him for both his creativity and professionalism.
I hired Rupert to score a film in Egypt in late 2016. His original music drew out the quirky theme and up-tempo pace of the film perfectly. I hope we will work together again soon.
The score added so much to the production layering emotion, creating atmosphere and plunging the audience into the sultry New Orleans heat. He took all my thoughts on themes and feelings and turned them into music.
